In a now long forgotten world, many generations ago, a bird like shape emerged from wooded dark- ness, floating and fluttering, drifting and dreaming. Backlit by a bright glow of iridescent light, the undecipherable form wore a dazzling golden mask. Its long beak swooped down like an inverted horn and since then, people have referred to the mythical being simply as Claptone.
Years spending wandering medieval landscapes have informed Claptone's view of the world, experi- encing both magical mystery and muted melancholy he enchanted onlookers with occult instruments and beguiling sounds. Forever surrounded by a sense of intrigue, the world soon cottoned on to the elusive yet enchanting musical powers of this otherworldly beast. The results are that today his sha- manistic sonic powers take him all around the world.
Whilst Claptone has continued to roam in his own circles, 2012AD proved to be a year dominatedby his infectious 'Cream' track. It became an immediate hit, topping new world charts at Beatport and RA, whilst the sonic conjuring of the 'Night On Fire' EP also lured all those who heard it, with the result another Top 20 hit. But that's not all, for the creativity flows freely in our hero, and his 'Another Night' also proved to be just as successful on the dancefloor. Deep and woozy, the Claptone sound pairs theatre with tragedy, feel good vibes with acute melancholia and imbues each groove with a Rhodes laced funk, an organic string hook and myriad earthy elements.
Up to the present day, Claptone releases have been birthed on Germany's influential Exploited label, picking up props from the likes of Pete Tong, DJ Sneak, Soul Clap, DJ Hell, Jesse Rose, A-Trak along the way. Who or whatever Claptone is, it is alive, with a life of its own, evolving and revolving in equal measure, exploring new sounds naturally and forever taking inspiration from long gone and occult worlds.
So far, esteemed and influential dancefloors at clubs in Berlin, London, Paris, Melbourne, Shanghai, New York and many others around the world have fallen under the sonic spell of this secretive alche- mist. The future is unpredictable for Claptone, but a new release 'Wrong' including the track 'No Eyes' with the inimitable JAW from French funsters dOP is on the horizon. Beyond that, your guess is as good as ours...
Born and raised in France, Kevorkian's passion for music led him to play the drums in his adolescent years. He moved to the United States in 1975, hoping to find more challenges than those he faced at home. During that time the competition to be a drummer at most gigs was very high, so he refocused his efforts in becoming a DJ in underground New York City clubs, around 1976. His career soon skyrocketed, and as a result he quickly made DJing his full-time occupation, although some work was still at more commercial venues such as the club New York, New York in 1977. He taught himself tape editing and started making disco medleys, some of which are still popular to this day, such as Rare Earth's "Happy Song". He was offered a position doing A&R for a nascent dance indie record label, Prelude Records, which allowed him to go into the studio and do remixes. His first remix, of a Patrick Adams production, "In The Bush" by Musique became a wild success both in clubs and on the radio. It was the first of many remixes that helped Prelude define the sound of New York's dance music, including many memorable songs, including "You're The One For Me' and "Keep On" by D-Train, and "Beat The Street" by Sharon Redd. His stint at Prelude ended in 1982, the same year where he had the most number one singles in Billboard's Dance Music Chart, which included his remixes of now-classic songs such as "Situation" by Yazoo, and "Go Bang" by Dinosaur L. He DJ'd at Club Zanzibar in Newark, New Jersey in the 1980s as well, home to the Jersey Sound brand of deep house or garage house. During this time he decided to build his own recording studio, Axis Studios, which shared the same building as Studio 54. It quickly turned into a major commercial operation. Due to the pressures of studio work, he had abandoned DJing around 1983 to dedicate himself to recording and mixing full-time, but couldn't stay away from the turntables, and started spinning again in early 1990. The scene had really become much more international, and he quickly was able to start traveling and gaining much exposure overseas, including Japan. He toured Japan, DJ'ing with Larry Levan in the Summer of 1992 (the 'Harmony Tour') right before Levan's death in November of that same year. The demand for his DJ appearances led him to start traveling to many of the best club venues around the world, including London's 'Ministry Of Sound' and 'Fabric', Japan's 'Spacelab Yellow', Ibiza's 'Pacha' and 'Space', as well as Italy's 'Angels Of Love' and many large-scale festivals. By 1995, he decided to start an eclectic independent record label, Wave Music which allowed him to find an outlet for his own creative endeavours, including the FK-EP, as well as signing records by Abstract Truth, Floppy Sounds and a slew of other electronic music releases. Then in 1996, he (along with partner John Davis) became involved in starting what arguably became one of New York's most revered weekly parties, Body&SOUL which took place every Sunday afternoon at Club Vinyl (6 Hubert Street), playing along with co-resident DJs Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell and Danny Krivit for a mixed crowd of ecstatic and faithful dancers from all over the world. The 'Body&SOUL' sound, a unique soulful mix of very organic and spiritual dance music grooves, led to the release of a successful compilation series by the same name. His career as an artist did not stop evolving, as he rekindled his interest for a more electronic sound, and the release of his Sonar Music set in 2002 marked a turning point; he started playing a much edgier and futuristic style, with more to do with Techno and Dub than the House sound he was mostly identified with as a DJ until that time. In 2002, he also started touring along with Detroit Techno legend Derrick May, playing sets together as the 'Cosmic Twins'. His recent appearances at Berlin's Tresor, Manchester's Sankey's Soap and London's Fabric have helped gain him many younger fans that may not have been aware of his previous work, which in turn has led to the timely Summer 2006 release of his newest compilation CD, entitled 'Frequencies', (Wavetec), which takes the listener on a grand tour of the types of electronic music sounds he has been championing of late, from Electro and Minimal to 'big-room' House and Techno. In April 2003, he started a residency at a new weekly Monday night event in New York City called "Deep Space NYC", which focuses on dub in all of its forms, and where the format is extremely eclectic, ranging from spaced-out techno to the deepest reggae, dubstep, hip-hop as well as drum & bass, house music and disco. His recent musical output has him mixing Deep Space NYC Vol. 1, a compilation featuring several of his own original productions (along with Jamaican dub legends Mutabaruka and U-Roy); he also recently did notable remixes for Moloko, Yoko Ono, Cesária Évora, Nina Simone, as well as much for his own label. In 2005, he was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame as both a remixer and DJ. Kevorkian now tours the world, taking part in many music gatherings, such as the Midem (France), Sónar Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art (Spain), Global Gathering (UK), Exit Festival (Serbia), The Big Chill (UK), Bestival (UK) and Electric Picnic (Ireland).
His rise to dance music infamy dates back to his humble beginnings as a leading force behind the Balitmore/Washington DC dance music scene. Alongside his partner and fellow DJ Scott Henry, Feelgood launched "Fever", which for nearly a decade become one of the most sought after events for touring DJs from around the world. It was the days after starting Fever that Feelgood enhanced his reputation amongst those in the international dance community. He parlayed his danceable brand of House music up and down the East coast and became renown for his creative ability to incorporate his love of 80’s music with a variety of different House styles into his sets. In the years that have followed, he has taken his talents to all ends of the earth – from North and South America to Russia and Asia, and everywhere in between. He has appeared at such seminal events as Coachella, and Lollapalooza, and has become a welcome fixture with many of the largest production companies in the US and abroad. His initial popularity was assisted thanks in part to his legendary mixed series, "Time to Get Ill" and has continued to flourish through the release of remixes and singles such as “Jacker's Anthem,” “My Life” and “Watchu Gonna Do”. He is a mainstay in the charts on BeatPort and Traxsource as well as other other worldwide digital sites. In the past couple years Feelgood has had several releases on Major and Independent labels such as, Instereo, Guesthouse, Fogbank and Ammo Recordings - with a breakout track called "Bebop" that stayed in the Beatport and Traxsource charts for most of the 2014 year! Feelgood remains committed to lighting up dance floors around the world – summing up his musical mission in one sentence: "I just want to do what the name implies, to make people have a good time and go home with a great feeling”.
Washington DC based producer and DJ, Eau Claire, grew up as a classically trained pianist and has taken her penchant for the keyboard to the next level, creating a signature blend of house, nu-disco, and indie dance. From the studio to the dance floor, Eau Claire has brought her feel-good sound and positive energy to clubs and festivals across North America. She has received support from major music outlets including DJ Mag, Idolator/SPIN, Indie Shuffle, and LessThan3. Her impressive repertoire of remixes has earned her several top 10 rankings on Hype Machine and over 3 million streams on Soundcloud. Several of her remixes have been signed to well-respected labels including Warner Brothers Records and Atlantic. In the Fall of 2016 Eau Claire announced the start of her own record label 'Feed Me Disco' where she released her debut EP "All The Wonder" followed by a remix EP in early 2017. Feed Me Disco has also become her signature mix series and recurring label party which she holds in major cities including Washington, DC, New York, and Los Angeles.
